Gulf Coast Desalination Pilot Study

Project Profile

Reiss Environmental, Inc. (REI) developed and executed a seawater desaliantion pilot study evaluating two parellel seawater reverse osmosis pilot trains for a 12 month period, testing alternative pretreatment systems and the influence of seasonal changes on the source and finished water quality.

The project site was outdoors with minimal fencing for security. With practically no facilities present at the project site, two Trailer-Mounted pilot units were utilized to provide an enclosed weather proof environment for the pilot equipment and operations. The internal lab and office areas of the Trailer-Mounted pilots provided adequate shelter and ample room for operations during the one year of pilot operations in a rainy Florida climate.

Two REI Trailer-Mounted pilots were required to demonstrate fulltime operation capabilities of both raw water pretreatments and the coincident membrane response to each pretreatment.

Operating data and analytical results from the pilot systems were collected using hand held monitoring devices and analyzed within the trailer laboratory.

Over the course of the project, the Trailer-Mounted seawater systems provided side by side comparisons of the membrane performance following two separate pretreatment processes.
